(SELF) Change Your Perspective Change Your Life

'If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.'

In every situation that we are faced with in our lives, we normally have a choice as to how to look at it. This week, we are going to be focusing on how changing your perspective can change your life. Every person looks at the world from their own eyes. For example, you and your friend are walking along a path in the forest and there is a tree in front of you. You may think that it is a really beautiful tree, but your friend, on the other hand may think its really ugly. The tree has not changed. Its physical structure and appearance is the same. How is it though that two people can look at the same exact tree and have two completely different opinions of it. This small and simple explanation can be likened to the bigger things within our lives. When I started my first business, I was extremely excited to get the ball rolling and the excitement meant that I never really prepared for the thought of failing. However, 6 months down the line, I realized that the business was a sinking ship so I cut my losses and closed shop. What this experience taught me about perspective was life changing. At first, I started questioning whether I was good enough and went down a spiral of self pity and hate. I felt I that I did not have it in me to succeed at all. What was the point of even trying again if I am bound to fail again? However, after giving myself a couple of days to let out all my emotions, I analyzed the situation with a calmer mind. I went to one of my mentors and he said something that destroyed my pre-conditioned notions on failure and perspective. He said, ' Remove the word failure from your dictionary and replace it with the word learning.' Therefore, after hearing that, I decided that it was time to change my mindset on this 'learning' and use it to my advantage. I decided to analyze the mistakes I made in the first business so that I could be more prepared for my next venture. This led to me being a lot more successful with my next business venture. Whenever you are going through something challenging in your life, take a step back, analyze the situation and ask yourself, 'will changing my perspective on this situation benefit me?' Then, go ahead and conquer that situation. The video below speaks about my journey with changing my perspective and how it impacted my life.
